USEFUL SPANISH WORDS AND PHRASES

Luces — lights.

Luz de cruce — dipped headlights.

Luz larga — full beam.

Intermitente — indicator.

Intermitente izquierdo — left indicator.

Intermitente derecho — right indicator.

Luces de emergencia — hazard lights.

Luz de freno — brake light.

Freno — brake.

Freno de mano — handbrake.

Embrague — clutch.

Acelerador — accelerator.

Volante — steering wheel.

Gire el volante — turn the steering wheel.

A la izquierda — to the left.

A la derecha — to the right.

Recto — straight ahead.

Pare — stop.

Avance — move forward.

Despacio — slowly.

Marcha atrás — reverse gear.

Abra el capó — open the bonnet.

Abra el maletero — open the boot.

Toque el claxon — sound the horn.

Limpiaparabrisas — windscreen wipers.

Cinturón — seatbelt.

Ruedas — wheels.

Neumáticos — tyres.

Escape — exhaust.

Gases — emissions.

And the phrases you may need most:

Lo siento, no entiendo.
Sorry, I don’t understand.

¿Puede repetir, por favor?
Can you repeat, please?

Más despacio, por favor.
More slowly, please.

Mi español es limitado.
My Spanish is limited.

¿Está todo bien?
Is everything okay?

¿He pasado?
Have I passed?

¿Qué tengo que arreglar?
What do I need to fix?

¿Tengo que volver?
Do I have to come back?

Honestly…learn those…or have them in front of you…and the whole thing becomes much less scary.
