In this article I’ll guide you through a checklist for your Non Lucrative Visa documents, and give you one or two handy hints and tips along the way.

Just before I begin, if you or one of your family members has a passport from an EU country, or perhaps you can get an Irish passport if you have an Irish parent or grandparent, then you can potentially move to Spain without a visa

Check out how to do that on one of a few videos on our YouTube channel. If however, you don’t have an EU citizen in your family, you’ll need a visa. Continue…

Number 1

The National Visa Form

HERE is a link to download this and the English translation of the form. But it’s the Spanish version you should complete and take with you to your visa appointment.

Also, take a copy. This is worth doing for all of your documents, and scan them into your computer too.

Number 2

Form EX-01, the Non Lucrative Temporary Residence Authorisation Form.

Forms are called Modelos in Spanish – once again, fill this form in before you go to your appointment, and take a copy with you.

HELPFUL TIP

Keep your documents in a file and label them so you can access each document quickly when the official asks you for them. Officials love to see an organised file, it makes their job so much easier and quicker. A separate file for all of the copies will make their hearts glow with love!

Number 3

Two passport sized photos

Make sure they follow the rules for Spanish passport photos

HERE is a link to the official guidelines for your photos

Number 4

Your passport

This must be valid for at least a year and have at least 2 blank pages to make room for the visa stamp

Also, bring copies of all of your passport pages. Not all consulates or BLS offices ask for all of the pages, but as we always say, ‘belt & braces!’

Number 5

A Criminal Record Certificate

This should be from the country you’ve lived in for the last 5 years. In the UK this is called the ACRO. There’s a link HERE for their website where you can fill in the form

Also this must be apostilled and translated by an official translator

Here are links to the official UK government apostille site, and the official translators list

Number 6

Private Health Insurance

This must be from a company authorised to operate in Spain

If you’re from the UK and over retirement age, you can use form S1 to access the Spanish state healthcare system, which covers you for your Non Lucrative Visa needs

There are several videos on YouTooSpain’s YouTube channel about this. Check out the most recent one for up to date information.

Number 7

A medical certificate

Make sure this is signed and stamped by a registered medical practitioner, find the link HERE!

This also needs to be apostilled, and translated if it’s not already in Spanish.

Number 8

Documents to show the financial means to cover your living expenses

The amount you need can be either passive income like a pension or money from a rental property for example, or it can be in savings, or a combination of the two.

Either way, you’ll need to show you have the money. Best check out the videos I’ve made about this, there’s too much detail for a checklist and too many ‘it depends!’

Number 9

Modelo 790-52

This is the visa fee payment form, which you fill in online HERE

Don’t forget your credit card to make the payment!

Number 10

Documents for your family members

The financial requirements for you and your family are more than for a single applicant, and you’ll need extra documents like marriage certificates and birth certificates to prove your familial relationships.

There are such a lot of ‘it depends!’ here, but I’m not going to clog up this checklist with too much information, you’ve got the basics.

One extra document

You may also need to prove you’re no longer working, especially if you’re not retired. The P45 form is the correct document from the UK.
