If you’re applying for the Digital Nomad visa, or the Non-Lucrative Visa for Spain in 2025, you need to know: do you qualify financially?
The Spanish government have announced the IPREM figures and the minimum wage amount, from which you can calculate the financial requirements for these and other visas too.
The Non-Lucrative Visa
Let’s start with the Non-Lucrative visa, which is based on IPREM, that’s an indicator used as a reference point for visas, grants, scholarships and a few other things too.
Last year the figure was set at €600 per month, a lovely round number which makes calculating financial requirements very easy, and I’m happy to say that amount has been frozen for 2025, so it’s the same.
Does that mean you only need €600 a month for your Non-Lucrative Visa?
Well, no it doesn’t. For a single applicant you need 4x IPREM, that’s €2400 per month, and it’s another 1x IPREM for each additional close family member, making €3000 per month for a couple.
So the annual figure for a single applicant is 12x €2400 which is €28,800, and for a couple it’s 12x €3000 which is €36,000.
Is that cash in the bank you need?
It could be, that’s classed as savings. But you can also have passive income, which is a monthly amount like a pension or from investments or rental income, anything that hasn’t required any actual labour, because you’re not allowed to work on this visa.
You can also have a combination of passive income and savings, which seems to be the most common situation.

The Digital Nomad Visa
The financial requirements for this are different, because they’re based on the minimum wage, and it’s a slightly more complicated sum because wages are calculated with 14 ‘monthly’ payments per year rather than 12.
So the figure in 2024 was €1,134 per month, and that has been raised to €1,184 per month, backdated to January 1st 2025, so multiply that by 14 for an annual amount of €16,576.
But that’s not the end of the calculation. An applicant for the visa will need at least 200% of that (or 2x the minimum wage), with an extra 75% for the second family member, and 25% for each additional family member.
Let’s work out those figures for you. First of all the applicant’s minimum annual amount is €33,152.
For the second family member it’s €12,432, making a total of €45,584 for a couple.
And for each additional family member it’s another €4,144.
So if you’re a couple with 2 children for example, you’ll need a minimum annual amount of €53,872.
So those are the financial requirements for the most popular two visas, and the other visas use one of those two methods of calculation too. If you have any questions, ask in the comments and tell us all what you think of the new amount for the Digital Nomad Visa.
