How to Move to Spain from the UK as a non-EU citizen ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งโžก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ

Do want to know how to move to Spain?  Are you a UK citizen? Or are you a non-EU citizen? Is it even possible for a UK citizen to move to Spain since Brexit?

First of all, if youโ€™ve British but youโ€™ve still got one of the old passports that says EU on it, that doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re an EU citizen. Since Brexit, youโ€™re now a citizen of whatโ€™s called a โ€˜third countryโ€™.

So let me tell you what you have to do in order to move to Spain.

First of all, if you want to find a job, this is more difficult since Brexit, you canโ€™t just turn up and get a job anymore. You need a special visa whether you want to work or not. Also any company wishing to employ you has to offer the job to EU citizens first, and prove theyโ€™ve done that. Then they have to sponsor you and do all of the paperwork to get your visa for you. Thereโ€™s a lot of jumping through hoops.

But what if you want to run your own business?

Well, then youโ€™d need to apply for a self-employment or entrepreneurโ€™s visa. You could go to one of the three Spanish consulates in your country of residence to apply for this, or you can also apply for the self-employment visa from inside Spain while youโ€™re there on holiday. First you fill in the application form with all of your great qualifications.

Youโ€™ll also need the following:

  • a very strong business plan
  • the finances to back up your business
  • money to live on while youโ€™re getting started
  • to show how your business benefits the local community, provides work for people and doesnโ€™t act in competition with an existing Spanish business in the area, so it needs to be different.
  • youโ€™re going to not only survive but thrive in your business, and that you wonโ€™t need to get money from the state.

So what if youโ€™d prefer to retire?

Thereโ€™s a different visa for retirement. Itโ€™s called the Non Lucrative Visa. Some people call it the retirement visa because itโ€™s mostly retired people who apply for it.

For this youโ€™d need enough money to live on. The financial requirement can be savings or any kind of passive income like a pension for example.

Thereโ€™s a minimum amount you need to have as a third country citizen of โ‚ฌ28,800 a year at the moment (2023) to get their temporary visa.

Temporary? What if you want a permanent visa?

For the first 5 years youโ€™re classed as a temporary resident, then you can apply for it to be permanent. Until then, you need to have enough savings or passive income to survive on.

Bear in mind youโ€™re not allowed to do any work on the Non Lucrative Visa, even if itโ€™s remote working.

The 90/180 Brexit rule is a subject matter solved in our view by the use of the Schengen Simple App under the direction of George Cremer whose site achieved. 9/10 rating in the latest appraisal by Spazz (? ) on U tube Simple to use and so far after 18 months absolutely no issues with Portuguese border officials .
